Kommetjie is a popular village to visit and to live in due to the huge amount of outdoor activities available.
 | Fishing and Crayfishing
Many people come to Kommetjie every year to go fishing and crayfishing, we have a boat club which maintains the boat launch, making Kommetjie a popular destination for recreational fisherman.

 | Shipwrecks
Our coastline is littered with the wrecks of ships that were caught in storms and ran into rocks. The most well known shipwreck is that of the Kakopo, which ran aground on Long Beach in May 1900 en route from New Zealand to Cape Town. It mistook Chapman;s Peak for Cape Point in poor visibility.

Although the Atlantic water temperature is very cold Kommetjie still has many visitors who come to dive on our natural and unspoilt coastline.

 | Slangkop Lighthouse
The circular lighthouse is made of cast iron and is 33 meters in circumference. It is painted white to stand out against the green backdrop of the mountain. The focal plane of the light is 41 meters above high water so as to be visible below dense mist, flashing four times per 30 seconds.

Kommetjie, with its consistent swell and wide variety of surf breaks, is the epicentre of high-performance surfing on the Cape Peninsula.

We encourage you to explore our village by making use of the footpaths, whether you want to walk on the beach, or on the mountains - short or long, there is something for everyone.

The Cape Point Route is a popular route for cyclists and mountain bikers, hugging the coast and with amazing views, this route is well worth it.
