In a letter to the KRRA, Swan Lodge representative Pierre Oosthuizen said that approval has been granted for demolition of the burned out Swan Lodge to commence.

"You will likely have noticed the demolition boards at Swan Lodge. I should have informed you earlier, but I am pleased to share that the demolition company has received the necessary approval from the City of Cape Town to proceed with the demolition of the damaged portion of Swan Lodge, up to the vet’s wall. This includes the four garages and staff quarters.

"Since the commencement of work on Tuesday, the majority of the time has been spent on the careful and thorough hazardous material (HazMat) clearance, particularly the removal of asbestos and debris. This task has been executed with a high level of professionalism, and all activities have been closely monitored, with electronic sampling conducted throughout the process. We anticipate that this phase will be completed by Friday afternoon.

"Next week, the team will return to salvage any materials that can be recycled from the remaining portion of the building. Following this, mechanical demolition of the structure will begin. We expect the entire project, including site clearance and the installation of permanent fencing, to be completed by no later than the 15th of December.

"As a point of reflection, yesterday marked the third anniversary of the fire, which has made this time particularly poignant for me.

"Please do share this update with the relevant parties within your organization. I am sure everyone will feel a great sense of relief now that tangible progress is finally underway.

"Thank you for your continued support.

"Take care, and best regards."
